No bid to oust Nehru Enclave trespasser

NEITHER THE CBCID inquiry ordered by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav into the property imbroglio, nor the LDA threats seem to have had any effect on the likes of Ram Singh Rana, who continue to remain as illegally and comfortable ensconced in the Nehru Enclave flat as ever.

A former office-bearer of the Lucknow University Students’ Union Rana, who owes allegiance to the youth wing of the Samajwadi Party, has grabbed flat number 179 in the Rupayan block of the enclave. It’s original allottee Manisha Yadav, who deposited Rs 16.26 lakh with the LDA on October 11 after the flat was allotted to her meanwhile continues to live in a rented house and also pays over Rs 15,000 as monthly installment towards the housing loan.

Her husband Santosh Yadav is a computer engineer based in New Delhi. “Despite having made full-payment against the property, the LDA has been unable to execute the registry and hand over the possession of the flat to me so far,” said Santosh adding that he had taken Rs 14.16 lakh housing loan for the purpose.

“Just imagine, more than half of my salary goes into paying the loan installment and house rent,” lamented Yadav.

Fed up with the dilly-dallying tactics of the property section officials, who seem to have a soft corner for flat-grabber Rana rather their own genuine allottee, Yadav approached LDA Vice Chairman BB Singh in the matter. “The VC assured me that the illegal occupant would be evicted and the possession of the flat would be given to me in two days,” he said. Santosh had come to meet the LDA VC again on Wednesday to pursue the matter.

But the latter was not available. More than a month’s time has gone by since and the LDA VC too seems to be fighting shy of taking action against the student leader. What else could be the reason for the development agency’s self-induced inertia in the matter?

Here, it is pertinent to mention that HT Lucknow Live had highlighted how Nehru Enclave was virtually turned into a safe haven for student mafia and anti-social elements by the property section staff of the LDA. Among the dozens of flat-grabbers was Ram Singh Rana, who deposited Rs 1.60 lakh with the LDA following the expose to get the flat allotted in his name. The amount was returned by the LDA as the allotments were to be made through a lottery draw.

But the student leader never vacated the flat despite claims to the contrary by the LDA. On September 5, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav ordered an inquiry into the property imbroglio. The probe, according to sources, is yet to make any headway.
