The residents’ wait for a city bus service here is getting longer. The Faridabad authorities are helpless as 140 new buses purchased for the city service don’t have drivers and conductors to run them.
“The introduction of city bus service in Faridabad is going to take four months more,” said Arun Kumar, director general, Haryana transport department.
“The basic problem is shortage of drivers and conductors that is hindering the introduction of city bus service in Faridabad,” he said, adding, “Once the drivers and conductors are appointed, the people of Faridabad will enjoy the bus service from different sectors and blocks.”
However, he dismissed the reports as false that the chances of Municipal Corporation of Faridabad being given the charge of operating city bus service on public-private partnership. Kumar said, “The transport department of Haryana is capable of running city bus service and we are working on it.”
Faridabad has received about 140 new buses under JNNURM scheme out of 150 and most of these buses are gathering dust in Ballabgarh area.
The situation turned worse as the transport department even stopped feeder bus service from Badarpur Metro station to different parts of Faridabad, recently.
