No jurisdiction area for PCR vans, says top cop
Two days after a woman had to run around to file an FIR after she was robbed of her debit card in a washroom at Sikanderpur Metro station, all PCR vans in the city were on Wednesday directed to take prompt action in a case irrespective of whether the incident had happened outside their area of jurisdiction.

As per the fresh guidelines issued by the deputy commissioner of police (crime) in this regard, a PCR van will have to intimate the respective police station about a case from anywhere in the city. They cannot hide behind the jurisdiction excuse.
“All the 53 PCR vans were called for a meeting on Wednesday. The directions have been passed. Now, no one will say that this is not our area of jurisdiction,” said DCP (east) Maheshwar Dayal, who holds an additional charge of DCP (crime).
On Monday, Mudita Bhan, a 23-year-old woman working with Nestle in Gurgaon, was attacked in the washroom of the Metro station with a chemical spray by another woman who stole her debit card and shopped for almost R36,000 at a nearby mall. Bhan was on her way to Delhi for an office meeting when she was attacked.
The victim was able to file an FIR after five hours of running around at the Iffco Chowk Metro police station in the evening. When asked about the measures taken by the police, Bhan told HT on Wednesday, “I am happy to know that measures have been taken to help women in distress. Now a woman will not have to suffer like me.”
The police say despite instructions, shopkeepers accept debit/credit cards without matching the signature and verifying the customers’ identity.
