The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) is not planning to set up a campus overseas, director Bakul Dholakia said on Tuesday.

"We were not interested earlier, neither we have any plans to open new campuses abroad at present. Of course, it is difficult to talk about distant future," Dholakia said.

"There is a distinction between creating a campus abroad and conducting courses overseas. We have a whole lot of them (courses) overseas, but they don't require physical infrastructure," he added.

Dholakia was commenting on the controversy created by the Human Resource Development Ministry's decision this month not to allow the IIM Bangalore to set up a campus in Singapore.

Dholakia said that IIMA was among the leading suppliers of course material abroad. But, he added: "Conceptually, we don't think that we need infrastructure overseas at this juncture."
