Residents can heave a sigh of relief. Haryana power minister Ajay Singh Yadav on Monday ruled out the possibility of electricity-related problems, saying all power plants in the state are functioning properly.
“We will get 1424 MW supply from private power firm Adani. All the power plants of Yamuna Nagar, Jhajjar and Khedar are running successfully,” Yadav told reporters here.
The minister who visited the city to meet Congress workers said the city’s current demand of 9345 MW is being met the present supply.
Answering a query whether the government would be able to supply adequate power to industries if they pay more, the minister said the government has already launched a scheme in this regard. “We will provide adequate power supply to industries and urban areas,” he added.
Yadav also said that the government is ready for round-the-clock power supply even to villages, provided the transmission losses are reduced to less than 25%. The minister said transmission wires would be concealed in PVC pipes to curb power theft in villages. The state government would spend R500 crore on this project. The government has also set up eight special police stations to check power thefts in the state.
Yadav said the power utilities are suffering losses to the tune of R28,000 crore, 50% of which would be borne by the state government and the rest would be met through long-term loans.
About the power supply in Gurgaon, Yadav admitted that in January, the electricity consumption was around 150 lakh units per day, which was likely to be increased to 200 lakh units per day during summer.
Earlier, Essar Group, a multi-billion dollar steel-to-power conglomerate, has proposed to set up its own power distribution network for power supply in Gurgaon.
