The central government was ready for a Central Buro of Investigation (CBI) probe into an Ujjain professor's death allegedly after student violence, said Union Minister of State for Home Shriprakash Jaiswal on Tuesday.
Madhav College Professor HS Sabharwal was heckled by unruly students, leading to his eventual death on August 26.
The state government, however, would have to recommend a CBI probe, said Jaiswal, who was visiting the flood-hit areas of the state along with Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachouri.
Condemning the manner in which the teacher died, Jaiswal said not just the academic world but everyone was shocked at his death.
Jaiswal also rejected allegations of the state government that the relief provided for the flood-hit areas by the central government was inadequate.
The minister said the calamity fund meant for the next financial year was also released to enable the state government to deal with the situation.
