The entire tribal belt and mid and higher hills of HimachalPradesh had no respite from biting cold wave as minimum temperature hovered around the freezing point at most of the places in spite of dry weather.

The local weather office held no hopes for early rains or snow or rise in night temperatures.

The state capital Shimla recorded minimum temperature at 4.8 degrees while Jakhoo and other higher areas of the town groaned under severe cold with temperature dipping two degrees Celsius.

Bhuntar (Kullu) shivered at zero degree while Sunder Nagar in Mandi district had low of 0.6 degrees.

Thick ground frost occurred in higher hills hampering vehicular movement in the morning hours while tribal valleys of Lahaul, Spiti, Pin-Parvati and Hangrang reeled under the trauma of intense cold wave with temperature ranging between minus 8 and minus 16 degrees Celsius.
