He said the remark was in context of Haji Yaqoob Quraishi. In Lucknow, the BSP voters had transferred their votes to Muslim candidate of Congress party for the post of mayor Dr. Manzoor Ahmad.

Siddiqui was here to participate in a party workers’ meeting. While talking to Hindustan Times, Siddiqui said terming Haji Yaqoob a hardliner is not unjust, as the Muslims cleric also criticise Yaqoob Quraishi for his inciting statements against a cartoonist in a newspapers in Denmark.

He claimed that he was quite familiar with Yaqoob Quraishi since college days, as he and Yaqoob were class fellows in inter-college in Meerut. He categorically denied that Mayawati had made any derogatory remarks against the Muslims and claimed that Muslim community is a part of BSP, as they were deprived from their basic rights.

Siddiqui said though BSP had not contested local body election on party symbol but Muslims extended their support to the BSP supported candidates. He quoted that BSP candidate registered victory in Bahraich, Kannauj, Auraiya and other places, where the state minister Waqar Ahmad Shah and Akhilesh Yadav left no stone unturned to ensure the victory of SP candidate.

Predicting a gloom for SP-led government in forthcoming coming assembly election, Siddiqui said the party was ready to go to poll and predicted that election could take place in second week of February.

However, he raised doubts over the intention of Congress party to dismiss Mulayam-led state government. Launching his offensive against state government, Siddiqui said there was no rule of law in the state and mafias were moving freely.

Siddiqui strongly condemned Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for not paying tributes to BSP leader Late Kanshi Ram. He said BSP would stage a demonstration at every district headquarter across the state to protest against the State government
