"This is not a princely state where the son of a ruler will become ruler himself. This is a democracy where people elect their representatives," Advani told a public meeting here, as the young Amethi MP carried out the second leg of his road show in the poll-bound state.

Advani's comments came a day after he suggested that the Election Commission organise common public meetings of political parties during elections.

The BJP leader was accompanied at the public meeting with Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath, with whom his party has recently struck reconciliation after his revolt over ticket distribution.

Both Advani and the Yogi heaped praise on each other for their leadership skills. "He (Advani) is a man with the highest ideals," the Yogi said.
