Nominations for MGKV polls to be filed today

NOMINATIONS WILL be filed on Thursday for the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth Students’ Union elections. Polling is slated for September 13.

Election officer Prof Surendra Singh told newspersons on Wednesday that nomination papers would be scrutinised on September 8 which was also the last date for withdrawal. The final list will be issued the same day. Nomination papers would be filed for the posts of president, vice-president, general secretary, library secretary and faculty representatives between 10 am and 2 pm, he said.

About 6,000 students would exercise their franchise, he said.

The election officer said about 350 policemen would be deployed at key points in and around the campus on the polling day to avoid any untoward incident. He said the candidature of those extorting money from traders on the pretext of the students’ union election would be declared invalid. Prof Singh said a model code of conduct had already been imposed in view of the election. Strict disciplinary action would be initiated against those found flouting the code, he added.
