Transport services were cancelled in view of the general strike from 1 am to 5.30 pm called by the Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF), official sources said, adding attendance in government offices was also "thin".

MPLF was formed some years ago jointly by three outfits -- United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).

Reports from the district headquarters said normal life in all districts was also affected due to the strike.

MPLF had earlier said they have been protesting since 1999 against state's merger with the union back in 1949.
