He was 66 and is survived by his wife Vijaya, two sons and daughters-in-law. His mortal remains were consigned to the flames this afternoon.
His mono act in Marathi play, 'Warhad nighalaye London la' gave him international repute and his name was entered the Guinness Book of World Records for his record performance in India and abroad. Warhad was written, directed and acted by Deshpande in which he alone played 52 roles in the play.
Deshpande was suffering from liver ailment and diabetes and was hospitalised last Tuesday.
He presented his play 'Warhad' in United States, England, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, Muscat, Qatar, Kuwait and Nigeria.
Born on December 5,1943, he worked as Head of Dramatics Department in Dr Bababsaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.
