New alternative sites will have to be arranged by the authorities concerned and public to hold such functions.

These bodies were issued a mandamus by the Allahabad High Court on November 22, regarding parks owned and maintained by the Nagar Nigam, the ADA and the Cantonment Board.

The order said: "These parks should not be allowed to be used for public functions or public gathering as otherwise it is not possible to maintain these parks. Apart from parks being damaged, it also creates nuisance for the local residents living around these parks.

Therefore, administration and people of this city must find alternative sites for such activities. Importantly, the court has directed these bodies to maintain sanctity of these parks, in future and maintain them properly. Maintenance of these parks should be done by opening of separate bank account viz 'Allahabad city parks development fund.' New rules are likely to be framed for such parks.

"As far as illegal encroachment in and around parks is concerned, district magistrate and SSP, are hereby, under mandate of the court, directed to provide adequate police force forthwith on the asking of Nagar Nigam, ADA for removal of encroachments from the parks in the city."

Meanwhile, social activist and petitioner, Anand Mohan has urged ADA and NN officers not to allow statue installation in parks and protect the sanctity of parks.
