Now, that’s a bright idea
From her fashion week debut in 1999 to this year, designer Renu Tandon has experimented widely with designs, silhouettes and detailing all through.
Her Spring/Summer collection 2008, showcased at the Samrat Hotel, borrows its theme from dawn, and Tandon has an interesting anecdote to share for the same. One day sitting at a beach in Phuket at 4.30 in the morning, Tandon was mesmerised to see the sun rise in its full glory.
As she puts it, “It seemed as if the sky and the sea changed their colour palette from orange to gold to silver and then everything turned bright and shiny.” Hence came the idea of Rise N Shine — Tandon’s collection of tunics and dresses in off white, silver, gold and orange.
The line is mostly done in cotton linens and georgettes pleated along the empire line and gathered near necklines and armholes with bottoms wide and flared. The highlight of her collection is the box pleat, which according to her is “An amalgamation of the masculine and the feminine and renders a hip and chic feel to the garment.”
Embroidered necklines vary from high collars to plunging v-necks. The designer’s prediction for 2008, “shimmer and shine will dominate the fashion scene.” Well, it sure looks like a bright beginning! What say?
