Founded on January 1, 1998, the NRI Parents Association (NRIPA) is a voluntary, non-profit, association with 175 members. The primary objective of the organisation is to address issues concerning parents of NRIs.

The organisation also has an SOS cell which offers non-medical backup to members in case of emergencies. The NRIPA publishes a membership directory and also a quarterly newsletter, Newscape and is planning to open its branches in other Indian cities.

The organisation plans to improve the basic quality of life for its members and the community in general.

The membership eligibility is that the said parent(s) should have one or more children living outside India (NRIs) at the time of application, and membership can continue even after the children's return to India. The annual fee is Rs 600 for both parents, and Rs 400 for a single parent.
