A commando attached with the National Security Guards (NSG) has been arrested for allegedly trying to molest a woman co-passenger while travelling in the Kolkata-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.
“The commando, Harpat Singh, a resident of Dwarka in New Delhi, allegedly misbehaved with the woman, who studies in the national capital, while they were travelling in the same compartment (AC-III) of the train on Saturday night,” said superintendent of railway police (SRP), Patna, Upendra Kumar Sinha.
Police said when the train left Dhanbad on Saturday night, Harpat began to tease the woman and as the train went past Koderma, the situation got worse. Shocked, the woman strongly objected to the commando’s behaviour, raised an alarm and reported the matter to the coach conductor. When the train reached Gaya, the coach conductor informed the Government Railway Police (GRP), and the woman lodged a written complaint against the commando there following which he was subsequently arrested by the Allahabad GRP during the trains’s onward journey in the wee hours of Sunday.
The SRP, Patna said that on getting information — Gaya GRP falls under his jurisdiction — they informed their Mughalsarai counterpart as it happens to be the trains’s next stoppage after Gaya. When the train arrived at Mughalsarai and GRP tried to arrest the erring NSG man, a group of commandos travelling with him resisted the attempt.
The SRP said finally a strong police force deployed at Allahabad Junction managed to arrest Harpat. Later, he was handed over to a team of Gaya GRP, which brought him to Gaya. The commando was forwarded to judicial custody.
The SRP said police would file a chargesheet against him on Tuesday. Rail ADG K S Dwivedi directed the SRP to bring the matter to the notice of the commanding officer of NSG for further departmental proceedings against Harpat.
