Official pulled up for untidy work

The official lost his temper when he saw the building material lying outside Anand Laxmi apartment while inspecting cleanliness work in the area. He immediately called up the engineer and directed him to stop the construction work.

ANNOYED OVER building material lying scattered outside an apartment under construction near Chain Factory Crossing, municipal commissioner Badal Chatterjee today directed the concerned engineer to stop construction of the apartment. The official lost his temper when he saw the building material lying outside Anand Laxmi apartment while inspecting cleanliness work in the area.

He immediately called up the engineer and directed him to stop the construction work. He also directed the engineer to take the no-objection certificate from the Jal Sansthan and the municipal corporation and only then start the construction work.

The official directed the engineer to immediately remove the building material from the road, which was also dumped over a drain. Similarly, the municipal commissioner imposed a fine of Rs 11,850 on various shopkeepers at Shastri Nagar area for encroaching upon the road.

He warned the residents to be ready to pay group penalty for littering the roads. He directed the residents to pay Rs 30 per month per house and the cleanliness of the area would be looked after by the Kanpur Municipal Corporation. The action came in wake of the problems being faced by the safai karamcharis while cleaning the drains in the area as the garbage had been dumped on the road in Shastri Nagar Labour Colony.

The municipal commissioner also warned the shopkeepers at Gumti and Kabadi Market to clear the roads of encroachments else a heavy fine would be imposed on them next time.

Irked with the slow pace of cleanliness work at Shastri Nagar, Kabadi Market and Sant Nagar area, the municipal commissioner suspended safai supervisor Shyamlal alias Baba and imposed a fine of Rs 500 each on safai nayaks Govind and Sukhlal of Swaroop Nagar and Kaushal Puri, respectively. He also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on safai supervisors of Sarojini Nagar and Kabadi Market.
