Polling personnel for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on April 20 in Outer Manipur seat are finding it difficult to reach polling stations in interior hill areas of the state due to landslides at various places, official sources said on Saturday.

Incessant rains in the past few days had caused landslides in at least seven points along Imphal-Jiribam National Highway No 53 causing problems for the personnel to reach interior parts of Tamenglong district and other areas, they said.

The sources said the landslides caused at Rengpang and Awangkhul on NH 53 had completely blocked the road and there was no other means for anyone to reach Tamenglong district headquarters without clearing the road.

So far no polling personnel has reached Tamenglong hill district headquarters although the first phase of polls is only two days away, they said adding that it may not be possible to clear the roads before the election.
