An Oil India Limited crude oil pipeline caught fire when unidentified persons pierced a hole to pilfer oil in Assam's Tinsukia district on Monday night, official sources said.

This caused burst in a portion of the pipeline, which was carrying crude oil from a well of Oil India Ltd to oil collecting station at Langkasi under Bordubi police station and the sound triggered panic about a bomb blast, sources said.

OIL's fire brigade squad extinguished the blaze and plugged the pipeline.
