One bomb went off in injured man's bag

A few minutes later, he bent to pick up the bag and found

it to be too bulky. As he peered into the bag, the device exploded.

Patil, the sole injured person in Wednesday's serial blasts, told the police that he was "busy listening to the speeches" by IAC members. He sustained minor injuries on his stomach.

The police suspect that the bomb that injured Patil was placed either in his bag by someone or was already there.

Following the explosion, Patil was immediately taken to Sassoon hospital, where he is being interrogated. He was, however, barred from speaking to the media

Patil, who hails from Urali Kanchan in Pune district, told the police that he worked as tailor at Deccan and was on his way back home.

Sreejit Tambe, another person who also has an office on JM road, said initially he did not hear any explosion. "My colleagues and I realised about the blasts only after the police started arriving."

Meanwhile, chaos ruled after JM Road witnessed four blasts, while the fifth one was defused by the police.

The four blasts occurred between 7.45pm and 8.15pm. The first blast was at Bal Gandharva Rangmandir, where Team Anna was staging a protest. Another device exploded in a trash can outside a McDonald's outlet, the other two devices that went off were strapped to bicycles near a branch of the Dena Bank and near Garware bridge.

Heavy traffic jams was witnessed as police vehicles arrived at the spot.

At the same time, there was a power cut in several parts of the city, while mobile phone lines were jammed, resulting in panic.

The police barricaded the entire area within 20 minutes.
