One held for taking bribe
THE ANTI-CORRUPTION Cell sleuths nabbed an employee of Sadar Tehsil red-handed while he was taking bribe from a person at Pandeypur on Friday. The arrested employee was identified as Umashankar Upadhyaya, a revenue collector (Sangrah Amin) of Sadar Tehsil.
He was arrested while taking Rs 1,000 as first installment of Rs 10,000. He was booked under Section 7/13 (2) of Anti-Corruption Act 1998 with the Cantonment police station.
Deputy Superintendent of Police in Anti-Corruption Cell Nand Lal Yadav said that Uday Singh Maurya, a complainant, had lodged a complaint that one employee of Sadar Tehsil was demanding Rs 10,000 as bribe for giving him more time for recovery of electricity arrears of Rs 58,000.
Nand Lal said that Rs 1,000 laced with chemicals were given to the employee by the complainant. Following this the sleuths of Anti-Corruption Cell laid a trap and arrested Upadhyay at a tea stall in Pandeypur, he said.
The complainant Uday Singh Maurya said that he had received the RC of his pending electricity arrears of Rs 58,000 and for this he went to the office of Sadar Tehsil to get more time in this regard. “When I contacted Sangrah Amin Umashankar Upadhyay, he demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe for giving ten days time,” Maurya said.
He refused to pay Rs 10,000 in one installment after which Upadhyay told him to pay Rs 1,000 to every ten days.
