One killed in militant attack in J&K
A Village Defence Committee (VDC) member was killed while resisting a militant attack in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, sources said on Tuesday.
A group of militants on Monday night fired on a doke (high altitude meadow settlement), housing over 25 people in Drabeel area, and a VDC member Prem Nath retaliated the fire.
However, he was killed in the attack, they said, adding other alerted VDC members soon fired back forcing the militants to flee from the spot.
Additional troops have been deployed in the area and security forces have launched a search operation to nab the militants, the sources said.
During summer, shepherds from the valley move to the high altitude lands to graze cattle and build temporary settlements known as doke.
