Expressing confidence that Congress would emerge victorious at the coming assembly hustings, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday pooh-poohed the opposition AGP as a "directionless and nervous lot" in the face of the polls.

"The prospects of Congress are very bright and response from people very encouraging. But the Asom Gana Parishad is directionless and nervous," Gogoi told reporters.

"Being a regional party they are going outside the state to Amar Singh (Samajwadi Party), Chandrababu Naidu (TDP)," Gogoi said.

"AGP is begging for Amar Singh's help, but he cannot help. Only the people of Assam can. They have no ideology and no commitment," he alleged.

On the threat perception from ULFA, Gogoi said "till now, none. We don't feel the threat from militants. .. The law and order situation has improved vastly now and the sense of insecurity among people is not there."
