Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took up brush and painted a flowering tree with rain drops falling as he inaugurated the three-day Megha Utsav, a festival to celebrate the arrival of monsoon here on Wednesday.

"I used to paint in school and I had a good art teacher", the left-handed Chief Minister recalled while drawing lines before an appreciative audience.

He also planted a kadamb sapling to mark the occasion inside the Rabindra Mandap premises where the festival began with pouring of water from three rivers - Ganga, Sipra and Mahanadi.

The festival, which would feature dance and music, would also have a painting camp and national seminar.

Jointly organised by the Kolkata-based organisation Reflections of Another Day, Orissa Dance Academy, Jayadev Foundation Trust and state's Tourism and Culture Department, it would focus on the works of three famous poets, Kalidas, Jayadev and Rabindranath Tagore on the magic season.

The first Megha Utsav was held in Kolkata in 2001 followed by another at Ujjain the next year.
