This is with reference to 'Just 30 days to justice' ('inspired india', August 10). It is saddening to note that the average time taken for a trial now is 15 long years and there are as many as 2.64 crore cases pending in courts all over India with more than 5 lakh cases in High Courts alone! In this sort of a sordid scenario, out-of-court settlements are the only way out and the dispute-free villages scheme needs to be followed everywhere to lessen the burden on the courts. For metropolitan areas, the suggestion of appointing a court administrator to streamline the caseflow and computerise the records deserves to be implemented.
