Over 100 employees sacked

Official Sources said that 84 ad hoc roadways employees and 83 regular employees of Varanasi region of UPSRTC, who participated in the symbolic strike, have been suspended. Orders to this effect have been received by the Varanasi region from headquarters in this regard .
There are 8 depos in Varanasi region such as Cantt Depo, Kashi Depo, Rural Depo, Ghazipur Depo, Jaunpur Depo, Badshahpur Depo, Sonbhadra Depo and Vindhya Nagar Depo. Sources said that new recruitment of Roadways employees would be held on contract basis to fulfill the posts of the suspended employees.
Meanwhile, resentment is brewing among the employees against the decision of UPSRTC authority to sack striking employees who participated in the symbolic strike on July 11.
Regional president of UP Roadways Employees Union Awdhesh Pandey said that the Roadways employees would not tolerate the dictatorial action of UPSRTC for sacking striking employees and would give a befitting reply in this connection.
He said that a meeting of the office bearers of UP Roadways Employees’ Association was on in Lucknow on Saturday to chalk out a strategy for future course of agitation.
In Gorakhpur, 54 UPRSRTC mployees were suspended. Senior department of officials have also lodged an FIR against 24 employees, besides terminating services of 24 contract employees in the department for their participation in the strike.
The action has been taken under the Essential Services Maintenance Act.
Earlier, Minister for UPSRTC Naresh Agrawal said strike period would be treated as break in services and one-day service of every striking employee would be deducted. Termination of all contractual workers in the department who had participated in the one-day token strike has generated serious resentment among the employees.
