As many as 22,814 students have applied for admission in BA against just 2390 seats available while 18,545 students have applied for admission in BSc against a meagre 680 seats. The same is the case with BCom, where 5733 students will compete for 375 seats when the AU Undergraduate Admission Test (UGAT)-2006 is held on June 22 and 23.
"For BA, there will be 34 test centres. This time there will be no centre at the varsity. We have made degree colleges and intermediate colleges spread all over the city as test centres for the benefit of the students. For BSc, there will be 24 test centres while for BCom, the admission test will be conducted at six centres," informed Prof AP Sinha, Director, AU UGAT-2006.
Prof Sinha informed that detailed seating plans have already been prepared and the varsity's preparations for the test is on schedule.
Prof Sinha said that the admit cards for the test are already being despatched through the postal department. "However, many admit cards have been returned to us by the postal department on the excuse of the addresses containing errors. However, on counter checking we have found that the addresses mentioned on the admit cards are correct. We have brought this anomaly to the notice of the Senior Superintendent of Posts Parimal Sinha and he has assured us to take care of the problem," he added.
A postal inspector also visited the Pravesh Bhawan on Friday in this regard. He was shown the undelivered and returned admit cards and 14 such admit cards were even handed over to him for ensuring delivery through post.
"The distribution of duplicate admit cards will be carried out from June 17 to June 20 from the Pravesh Bhawan for the benefit of the students. Any student who has failed to receive the admit card though post can come to the Pravesh Bhawan on these dates and collect the duplicate admit card," Prof Sinha said.
