PAC beats retreat from LU

THROUGHOUT THE day, PAC receding from the campus was a common sight. Even police personnel were not seen on the posts and spots where they would spend hours. Police outpost at LU did not confirm reports of PAC and cops receding from the campus but they did not rule out the possibility either.

There were hardly any cops on gate number one near the cashier’s office nor in front of the Commerce block which is usually the hub of khaki-clad men.

Shaheed Chowk and Ashok Vatika too wore a deserted look and an uneasy calm prevailed on the campus. Police presence was meagre outside the V-C’s residence too. In effect, LU was left to the mercy of student leaders and their supporters.

This is in contrast to the fact that while LU officials are demanding for more police force to get the hostel evicted, police force is receding from the campus thick and fast. In the given situation, it seems unlikely whether LU hostels would be evicted ever in the immediate future. LU V-C RP Singh, however, exuded confidence that hostel would be evicted sooner or later.

On the other hand, student leaders and research scholars continued their mock classes on the second consecutive day. Seeing media presence on the campus, student leaders performed ‘shram daan’ by mopping and cleaning the Arts Quadrangular ground. Student leaders said they would continue their protest in a democratic manner until the LU was open completely. V-C also took a dig on the student leaders performing ‘shram daan’ and said that finally Employees union also joined the party and opened all offices, including the cashier’s office. Some of the students paid fees and received computerised bills. But, the LU V-C did not take cognizance and said he was not aware of employees opening the varsity offices.
