Close on the heels of Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abulaziz's remarks that Pakistan should propose India's name for observer status in the OIC, Islamabad said the matter was under discussion with the committee and had come up during President General Pervez Musharraf's bilateral meetings at the Makkah OIC summit.

King Abdullah, the Chief guest for the January 26 Republic Day parade, had in a television interview said that India should be granted observer status in the OIC much on the lines of Russia, which is also a non-Muslim country.

Pakistan's Foreign Office Spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam said that matter would take a little long as it was still under discussion with the Committee.

"The matter is under discussion in the committee meeting and this will take a while," The News quoted Aslam as saying.
