A series of poor showings saw India slumping to their fourth defeat in six matches of the competition so far which ended their hopes of qualifying for this year's Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in December.
The loss also meant India could not improve on their Sydney Olympics seventh place finish and now fight it out for 7-8 place with South Korea in their final game on Friday.
Pakistan's win also completed the final line-up for the Champions Trophy, the four Olympics semifinalists -- Holland, Australia, Germany and Spain -- besides Pakistan as hosts and New Zealand, who beat South Korea 4-3 in another play-off on Wednesday.
After a barren first half, Pakistan emerged victorious with three goals in the second half with Tariq Aziz (43rd), Sohail Abbas (60th) and Shabbir Muhammed (68th) sounding the board.
