Panel to look into legal side of LUSU poll

THE LUCKNOW University (LU) administration has formed a committee chaired by Prof SK Singh of Law faculty, to look into the legal aspects of holding student union elections as per the Lyngdoh committee report. The committee would work out the modalities and eligibility criteria for candidates for the forthcoming LUSU poll, said RBS Verma, the returning officer for LUSU poll on Friday.

Meanwhile, last date for admission to the PhD programme first year has been extended till December 3. The campus will open on Sunday to complete formalities. In another significant development, proctor AN Singh has stated that LU would withdraw the FIR against 30-odd student leaders for writing on the wall if they agreed to pay the penalty fee of Rs 25,000.

Last but not the least, despite promises by the district administration, no force was deployed on the campus. Barring a fire brigade vehicle, no police were deployed on the campus. This is another indication that district administration has a soft corner for student leaders. As usual, handful of cops on duty made no effort to stop student leaders from entering the campus. LU employees: Now, LU employees have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday if their demands were not met in due course of time.
