The incident took place when the artistes in guise of Bharat, Shatrughan, Guru Vashistha and Nishadraj were performing on a boat. Members of the Ramleela Samiti, agitated with the incident, stopped the religious function for an hour. Later, it was restored after police officials rushed to the spot along with heavy police force.

The incident took place when the artistes in guise of Bharat, Shatrughan, Guru Vashistha and Nishadraj were performing on a boat. Members of the Ramleela Samiti, agitated with the incident, stopped the religious function for an hour.
Later, it was restored after police officials rushed to the spot along with heavy police force.
The artistes were crossing the ancient Dhaneshara pond on a boat at around 7 pm, when some miscreants hurled stones on the boat. This caused resentment among the artistes and devotees watching the function from the banks of the Ganga.
Soon, the devotees started staging a demonstration stopping the performance of Ramleela. They were demanding arrest of the anti-social elements. The function was resumed when police assured the arrest of trouble-makers.
Murder accused held: Police arrested an accused of double murder today and recovered a country made pistol and live cartridges from his possession during checking of suspected persons in Naria area under the Lanka police station on Friday afternoon.
The arrested man identified as Deepak Seth, was wanted by police in connection with murder of a couple after loot of 2.5 lakh in Hukulganj area here in 1989. The police had also attached the property of the accused in 1990. Since then, he had been absconding.
SO Lanka, Manoj Pant was engaged in checking; meanwhile, he spotted a suspicious looking man. When cops signaled him to stop for checking, he made an abortive attempt of fleeing but he was nabbed.
Drowned: A 28-year-old man died after falling in a deep well at Sindhaura village under the Phoolpur police station today. Police said the man was mentally disturbed and was going to respond to the natural call, accidentally, he slipped into the well. His body was fished out soon.
Crushed to death: A 27-year-old employee of a leather factory, was crushed to death by a truck in Karvat area in Chandauli on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Sadat Khan, a resident of Saraimeer in Azamgarh and was working here. The youth was going to Varanasi on his moped for some business at around 5 pm, when the mishap took place.
Meanwhile, several persons were injured when members of two groups clashed with each other over taking water from a canal at Meharkhan village.
