Parties to organise bandh on June 13

In another development, activists of the Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade took out a symbolic funeral procession of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
IN ORDER to put pressure on the Union government for a roll back in price hike of petrol and diesel, activists of different political parties have joined hands to organise a successful ‘Benaras bandh’ on June 13.
In another development, activists of the Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade took out a symbolic funeral procession of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
While talking to media persons here on Saturday, district secretary of the CPI (M) Hera Lal Yadav, district president of Samajwadi Party (SP) Gopal Yadav, city president of the SP Rakesh Jain, district secretary of the Forward Bloc Sanjay Bhattacharya, state secretary of the Janata Dal (Secular) Mehboob Alam and state secretary of the Samajwadi Janta Party (SJP) Kunwar Suresh Singh said the recent price hike in petroleum products would leave a ‘cascading affect’ on the price of essential commodities.
They strongly criticised the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre for the recent price hike in petrol and diesel. They alleged the Union Government was ignoring the interests of the common people.
They said a series of meetings, padyatras, motorcycle processions, dharnas and demonstration would be organised across the district to mobilise the common people for the ‘Benaras Bandh’ on June 13. They added a grand motorcycle procession would be taken out in the city on the eve of the Benaras Bandh on June 12.
The leaders said they were contacting different trade organisations and urged the common people to close their business establishments for a day on June 13 to lodge their strong protest against the hike. The activists of the Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade were protesting against register their protest against price hike in petroleum products.
The symbolic funeral procession was taken out from Luxa area and after passing several places, it culminated at Manikarnika Place where they performed the last rites of the symbolic corpse of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. SP leader Jay Prakash Yadav shaved his head and performed the last rituals of the symbolic corpse of the PM.
