The forest covered an area of about 28 acres under Jansa police station in Varanasi. The poaching of peacocks had come to the notice of locals a few days back.

A former village chief of Raisapatti, Prabhu Singh, lodged an FIR with the Jansa police station against 15 unidentified persons for hunting several peacocks in the forest of Raisapatti.

Police took serious note of it and started investigating the matter. Sources said, police also conducted a raid at several places to nab the hunters.

Meanwhile, the forest department has also started investigations into the matter and sounded all the deployed employees of the department to be cautious while discharging their duties.

Forest Department SDO OP Gupta said, an investigation inquiry of forest department was underway and the staff were in search of the remaining organs of the hunted peacocks. “Nobody would be spared if they were found guilty into the matter,” he said.

It may be mentioned that locals and a seer of an ashram, situated at Raisapatti, registered their protest against the incidents of poaching of peacocks in the forest.

Peeved with the incidents of poaching, this saint Munshi Baba, a disciple
of eminent saint Swami Argadanand, sat on a hunger strike for four days.
