Apropos of Rajdeep Sardesai's article A man of all reasons (July 20), President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has proved beyond doubt that he is a role model for many. I doubt whether his successor will ever sit cross-legged on the ground. But when Pratibha Patil assumes office, she should emulate the path of Kalam and should not allow any of her family members currently under suspicion to shift to Raisina Hill.

Even after he became President, Abdul Kalam remained apolitical and essentially secular. He became popular as
the people's President and children's 'Chacha Kalam'. Sardesai has rightly pointed out that the next incumbent to the highest office has a hard act
to follow.
