FOLLOWING ARREST of the main accused in Agasta Agrawal’s murder, the Lucknow Petrol Dealers’ Association today decided to call off their strike.

Earlier, the association had declared indefinite strike from Tuesday onwards.

They were demanding that prime accused in the murder, Santosh Kumar Chand alias Santosh Singh, be arrested.

Police sources revealed that Santosh got himself arrested in Deoria to evade falling into the hands of the Lucknow police.

Late on Monday evening, senior superintendent of police (SSP) GK Goswami received information from his Deoria district counterpart about Santosh’s arrest. The Deoria police ‘arrested’ Santosh, a native of Narrey village in Gagaha, Gorakhpur, when he was moving with a firearm in the Khampar area.

The Lucknow police would now seek warrant-B from the court to bring Santosh here. Only a few days back, the IG, Lucknow zone had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on Santosh’s head.

After learning about the arrest, the petrol dealers’ association summoned an emergency meeting on Monday night. Talking to the HT, vice-president of the association Gopal Shukla confirmed that they have decided to call off the strike as their demand had been met.

Agasta Agrawal was shot dead outside his Nirala Nagar residence on August 4. While Santosh was named the main accused, three others were sent to jail the very next day.
