PM condoles former Tripura CM's death

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday condoled the death of former Tripura Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumder and said the late leader actively worked to promote good governance.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday condoled the death of former Tripura Chief Minister Sudhir Ranjan Majumder and said the late leader actively worked to promote good governance.

As Chief Minister for four years from 1988 to 1992, he made a distinctive contribution to the development of the state, Singh said in a condolence message.

"In his death the country has lost a well known personality whose contribution to public life, particularly in
the North Eastern parts of the country, would be long remembered," the Prime Minister said.

Majumder set very high standards for political debate in the state and actively worked to promote good governance, he added.

Majumder, a sitting Congress MLA, passed away yesterday ollowing a massive cardiac arrest.
