The police feel that the attitude of the hospital authorities smells of something fishy at their end. aThis is the fourth case of child theft from the hospital.

“Despite repeated requests, the UISEMH, controlled by the GSVM Medical College, has failed to provide any records related to the case,” said police officials. The police have not been able to question the staff, which was on duty at the time of incident, as no names have been given by the hospital authorities.

A three-day-old infant went missing from the hospital premises while he was sleeping beside his mother at the hospital on October 9. Holding the hospital staff responsible for the theft, parents of the newborn lodged an FIR with the Swaroop Nagar police.

Many social groups have come in support of the baby’s mother, who is sitting on a hunger strike for the last three days. Activists of Mahila Manch today took out a procession and gheraoed professor SK Katiyar, Vice-Chancellor of the medical collage.

People, wearing black clothes and demon masks, demonstrated against the inhuman attitude of the hospital administration.

Later, a six-member delegation, including the parents of the child, also met Katiyar. Secretary of the Mahila Manch Neelam Chaturvedi informed HT that Katiyar had assured them of all possible help to recover the infant at the earliest and strict action against the guilty.

When activists of the Manch approached the police and demanded arrest of the accused, they were informed that the hospital administration was not cooperating in the investigations.

SO Swaroop Nagar Jairam Singh admitted to HT that even after a week of the incident, he is yet to receive any records related to the case from the hospital.
