Senior superintendent of police Raghubir Lal said the case was handed over to special investigation department (SIS) and the case was reopened after the SIS found some leads in the case.

The Ghaziabad police had filed a final report in the case on June 14, 2009, after they failed to find any substantial evidence or the motive behind the murder of this son of a homoeopathic doctor couple from Ghaziabad.

According to the police, an unidentified assailant allegedly attacked Sarthak and his mother, Deepti, with knife, hammer and an ice pick inside their flat at Satya Deep apartments in Raj Nagar. In that attack, Deepti was stabbed 18 times.
