On a tip-off, a police party stopped the lorry in Andhra Pradesh's Guntakal town, 50 km from Bellary, and a search revealed three big gunny bags stuffed with cash. The driver, Venkatrami Reddy, and his assistant Eshwar Reddy were arrested. The lorry was coming from Karnataka’s Bellary and going to Hyderabad.
The lorry driver told the police two persons gave them the money in Bellary and told them to drive to Hyderabad. On reaching Hyderabad, he was to call them and get further instructions about where and to whom to deliver the money.
“We are yet to interrogate the two. We will come to know the money trail soon,” Anantapur SP Shahanwaz Kasim said.
Janardhan Reddy and his brother-in-law Srinivas Reddy, who is Obulapuram Mining Company managing director, were arrested by the CBI in connection with the illegal mining case and they are in CBI custody in Hyderabad.
The CBI had seized Rs 3 crore in cash and 30 kg of gold from the residence of Janardhan Reddy and Rs 1.5 crore from the house of Srinivas Reddy in Bellary earlier this month.
