Police busted a major international cricket betting racket operating in the city and arrested six persons and seized over Rs 73 lakh in cash and jewellery, officials said here on Tuesday.

In a surprise raid, based on intelligence inputs and close surveillance, was conducted yesterday at 'Kalgi florist' in the Ellisbridge area and a huge amount of cash was found inside several lockers that were in the backside of the shop.

The accused were stocking money collected from betting on the just concluded Test match between South Africa and England, Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 1) Ajay Tomar told reporters this evening.

Tomar said the kingpin of the racket, identified as Mahindra Mukhi, originally from Porbander district, is absconding.
