A policeman was injured when militants opened fire at a police station in Udhampur district on Saturday, police said.

Militants fired at the police station in Basantgarh area of the district at 4.30 am on Saturday, they said, adding policemen on duty retaliated and the exchange of fire between two sides continued for some time.

The militants later fled away injuring one policeman, Jamil Ahmed, they said.

He was later referred to the district hospital, they said.

Security forces have rushed to the area, they said.
