A policeman was shot dead in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Constable Manzoor Ahmad was shot by gunmen from point blank range at Iqbal market in Sopore, 55 kms from Srinagar, at 8.20am, the officials said.

Ahmad, who was posted in Handwara area of Kupwara district in the SP office was staying overnight at his in-laws residence at Sopore.

This is the second shooting incident in the Valley in three days.

Militants had on Monday shot dead a trader from Sopore at Residency Road in Srinagar.
