The commission has prohibited the telecast of election-related issues on TV and other media 48 hours before polling begins.

The commission has drawn the attention of all media outlets to guidelines issued by the Press Council of India on objective reporting about elections and candidates.

These include a ban on reports which promote enmity or hatred between communities, statements on the personal character of the candidates or indulging in canvassing for a particular party or candidate.
