Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer Amitabh Thakur was suspended by the state government on Monday after he brought his fight against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to New Delhi.

“Thakur has been suspended for indiscipline, holding anti-government view, overlooking high court directives, dereliction of duty and violating service rules,” a state home department officer said.

He said Thakur filed several PILs in courts overstepping his jurisdiction, gave "baseless" statments against the state government and encouraged indiscipline in the police force.

Thakur responded to the suspension saying, "It is not easy to walk an honest path, I will approach the courts."

The suspension came hours after the officer sought intervention of the Union home ministry to get a CBI probe ordered into a rape charge against him.
