Power crisis hits SRNH

THE POWER crisis that started on Monday morning, badly affected services at the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital on Tuesday also. The crisis emerged due to some technical fault in the transformer supplying power to the hospital. The power department reportedly refused to repair the generator as it was second time in the past one week when the transformer had developed some technical snag.

THE POWER crisis that started on Monday morning, badly affected services at the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital on Tuesday also. The crisis emerged due to some technical fault in the transformer supplying power to the hospital. The power department reportedly refused to repair the generator as it was second time in the past one week when the transformer had developed some technical snag.

The generator supplied power only to the OPD and emergency wards, whereas other wards remained without power and water supply. Water supply was also affected in the residential colonies on the hospital campus. However, when the nurses and other staff complained to the superintendent-in-charge, the repair work was started at around 5 pm.

Vaccine launched
WYETH, ONE of the largest pharmaceutical company, on Tuesday launched Prevenar- its international vaccine for invasive Pneumococcal Disease (IPD), common among children in India. Prevenar is the first and only pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for infants and toddlers that protects a child against pneumococcal diseases like meningitis, bacterial pneumonia, septicaemia and bacteraemia (bacteria in the blood).

Prevenar was launched in Mumbai by Dr Mark Fletcher, MD International Scientific and Clinical Affairs, Wyeth Vaccine Research, Paris, Dr Nitin Shah, consultant paediatrician, PD Hinduja National hospital, Mumbai and president of Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Baldev Arora, area vice-president, South Asia and South East Asia, Wyeth Ayerst and Ranga Iyer, Managing Director, Wyeth Limited.

Iyer said launch of this vaccine in India marked Wyeth’s 100 years in vaccine leadership world-wide.
