Four new sub-stations, under the Rs 94-crore APDRP project at Pashupati Nagar, Indira Nagar, Medical College and China Park, are ready for commissioning by the first week of the next month. However, the China Park sub-station is likely to become operational from the last week of March. The three other sub-stations, in all probability, will be operational from the first week of April.
The Pashupati Nagar sub-station, after its commissioning, will ease the overloading problem in the area to a large extent and streamline the power supply of the area to a large extent. Apart from these four sub-stations, a new sub-station at Naubasta Galla mandi is also proposed in the APDRP project. Work on this project is likely to start soon.
Taking another step to meet the summer problem, the Kesco management has decided to replace old breakers and with ones. For the execution of this project Zarib Chowki, Fazalganj and Krishna Nagar sub-stations have been identified by Kesco officials. All old breakers of these sub-stations would be replaced by new ones. This step would ease the overloading problem necessitated due to manifold increase in demand for power supply during the summer months.
Another important project related to APDRP is laying of Aerial Bunch Conductors (ABC). This work is also likely to take off next month. The laying of ABC has been undertaken by Kesco to check power pilferage which is a major area of concern in terms of revenue loss.
For the Rs 4-crore project, specific areas of the city have been identified and the project will be executed by a private company. However, this project would be completed in phases. In the first phase of this project, ABC will be laid down at Parade, Zaribchowki and Kidwai Nagar areas. Later, other areas will be identified.
While the camera-based billing system is already under progress in all the 15 divisions of Kesco, efforts are being by to replace the present electronic meters with digital electronic meters.
Kesco General Manager MP Tripathi said, “These efforts are being made to confront the increased demand for power supply during the summer months.”
