Powerful landmine found in Kandhamal

Police on Saturday recovered a powerful landmine on Gudibali-Bhramarabadi Road in the Maoist infested Daringibadi police limit in Kandhamal district.

Around 10 kg explosive materials, suspected to have been planted by red rebels were defused by the district bomb disposal squad, said inspector in charge (Daringibadi) SK Gantayat.

With recovery of the landmine, we have averted a major incident in the area, he said.

Acting on the information from intelligence sources, bomb disposal squad, sniffer dog (explosive), security and police personnel raided the area.

Security personnel had recovered huge quantities of explosives in the nearby areas in the last month. Police also arrested at least eight Maoists in connection with the planting the landmines and established link with the ultras last month, sources said.

Combing operation was intensified in the area after recovery of the landmine, sources added.
