PLAYING HER backward card in a calculated manner, expelled BJP leader Uma Bharti today praised Kalyan Singh and dubbed his 1991 tenure as the ‘best’ in the State. However, she condemned Rajnath Singh for ‘introducing and inducting’ criminals and mafia into the BJP, saying “Rajnath Singh is responsible for the BJP’s pathetic state in UP.”

Bharti said the BJP was facing its worst ideological crisis. “The party is not clear about its priorities, philosophy and ideology,” she said. Saying that she would not petition the BJP for re-induction, Bharti termed Rajnath’s statement that he would consider her return to the party if she requested as an insult. Talking to reporters at a ‘Meet the Press’ programme here, Bharti claimed a majority of the workers were with her. About her future strategy, she asked reporters to wait till the end of her 90-day proposed ‘Janadesh Yatra’ in which she would devote maximum time in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal, the two States going to assembly elections next year. “LK Advani to BJP ke karyakarta ki haisiat bhi nahien rakhte,” she said while criticising him for his remark on Jinnah in Pakistan.

Bharti urged the CM, former PMs VP Singh and Chandrashekhar to join hands to find an amicable solution to the Ram Janambhoomi tangle. She opined that a masjid near the proposed temple would cause permanent tension between two communities and therefore was not acceptable. She underlined the need for due representation of Dalits, backwards, women and tribal in political parties. She said if the Congress and the BJP didn’t take the lead, leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati would continue to exploit people on caste lines.
