Pranab flown to New Delhi for treatment

Mukherjee will be taken to the Defence hospital in Delhi for a thorough check up and follow up treatment.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was on Sunday flown to New Delhi by a special plane for further treatment.

A team of doctors are also accompanying Mukherjee on the plane. Mukherjee was airlifted by an army helicopter to Kolkata from Krishanagar nearly 100 km from Kolkata.

West Bengal Governor GK Gandhi visited Mukherjee at the airport and inquired about his condition.

Mukherjee will be taken to the Defence hospital in the capital for a thorough check up and follow up treatment.

Mukherjee's condition, however, was described as stable by a team of doctors who attended on him at Krishnagar hospital. The doctors said that he was out of danger.

A senior MEA official and Regional Passport Officer (RPO) MK Singh, who accompanied Mukerjee to Kolkata, said a CT scan on Mukherjee's head showed no internal damage.

Mukherejee suffered injuries on head and other parts of body when his car was hit by a truck on NH 34 when he was returning to Kolkata with other Congress leaders from Murshidabad district on Saturday night.

He was firt rushed to Bethuadahari primary hospital where was given 12 stitches on his head. After his condition stabled he was rushed to Krishnagar hospital for further treatment.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and WBPCC general secretary Manas Bhuniya and Pradyot Guha were also injured in the accident.

Bhuniya was also airlifted to Kolkata alongwith Mukherjee.
